Assessments
Loss assessment coverage for Florida condo owners
Loss assessment coverage helps pay your share when the association assesses owners after a covered loss, such as a large master-policy hurricane deductible. Florida requires unit-owner policies to include at least $2,000, and many owners choose higher limits.
How to choose a limit
- Find the master policy's hurricane deductible
- Ask how the association splits deductibles among owners
- Estimate your share and choose a limit above it
What it won't cover
Assessments for routine repairs, reserves or deferred maintenance generally aren't covered.
Coverage depends on the policy, the insurance company and underwriting approval. Nothing here is a promise of coverage or price.

Common questions
Is $2,000 enough?
Often not in a coastal building with a large hurricane deductible. Ask your association for the numbers.
